The story

HMI interprets the Georgetown neighborhood church in connection with Madison’s Underground Railroad history. The property page discusses free Black residents including George Baptiste, who settled in Madison in 1837, and John Carter, who died in 1878 after passing information to conductor John H. Tibbets. Visits are by appointment, including Underground Railroad-related group programs.

Schedules can change for events, restoration, or the season. The dates above come from the same tour calendar as the Events page.
